The Goulbourn Jubilee Singers (Adult-Mixed voices)
The Goulbourn Jubilee Singers was founded in 1977, by enthusiastic, music-loving people from the Stittsville, Ontario area. GJS welcomes any adult who enjoys singing. There are no auditions, and sight-reading ability is not required. We strive to learn good quality choral repertoire, and to perform it to the best of our abilities, but always having fun along the way!
The GJS typically performs two major concerts per year as well as other community-service functions. Over the years, the choir has enjoyed showcasing a variety of themes and productions, from classical to musical theatre to folk and pop. Recent concerts have included an all-Canadian folk show, a programme of choral music about colours, a celtic show, and a jazz-inspired concert.
We enjoy singing together every week, and we enjoy the fellowship and friendship of the group. Singing enriches our lives, and helps us to escape the stresses of daily life! Music empowers us!
The adult choir also gathers several times a year for purely social evenings. We organize fun activities such as casino nights, Halloween parties, and special-themed dinner parties.
The Adult choir rehearses every Wednesday evening (September through May) from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, at Stittsville United Church, 6255 Fernbank Road, Stittsville. Although we are grateful for the hospitality of the congregation for rehearsal space, we are not a church-affiliated choir.
The Goulbourn Jubilee Singers is a proud member of Choirs Ontario
The Junior Jubilees (Children-Treble voices)
The GJS started the JJs Youth Choir in September 2000, to encourage interest and involvement in choral singing with the younger singers in our community. Their fine voices and energy have made them a welcome extension of the established adult choir.
The JJ's choir is vibrant and thriving! Our young members are very dedicated, and work hard to learn interesting music and to perform it well. Their repertoire is exceptionally varied: recently they have sung jazz, pop, and Canadian and celtic folksongs. They frequently learn more advanced choral literature, and perform it alongside the adult singers. This is a wonderful growing experience!
Children ages 8 to 14 who love to sing are welcome. No audition is required, but the Director asks that the children be able to read, and that they have the personal focus and concentration skills to participate positively in a one-hour rehearsal. Membership in the JJ's requires a commitment to attend weekly rehearsals and to perform on a regular basis with the group. The JJ's rehearse every Wednesday evening (September through May) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, at Stittsville United Church, 6255 Fernbank Road, Stittsville.
